Bruce Huang Claims NHTTA U1000 Title as CTTC Juniors Build Towards the NSW Junior Open

A proud CTTC moment at the Nittaku NHTTA Championship September 2026, celebrating the U1000 title and valuable tournament experience.
Chatswood Table Tennis Club has another junior achievement to celebrate. Bruce Huang claimed the Division 5 (U1000) singles title at the Nittaku NHTTA Championship September 2026, held at Nam Ho Table Tennis Academy in Rydalmere.
Competing on Saturday 19 September, Bruce Huang, Jack Huang and Lucas Dai all advanced from their U1000 groups. Bruce went on to lift the trophy, while Jack and Lucas produced performances worth celebrating in their own right. Together, their campaigns offered both a proud club moment and useful lessons for the next stage of training.
Bruce Turns Two Comebacks Into a Championship
Bruce finished unbeaten in U1000, winning both group matches and five knockout matches. His title run included two recoveries from 1-2 down: a 3-2 win over top seed Tran Nguyen, followed later by another five-game victory against seventh seed Wenxuan Jason Bi in the quarter-final.
He then defeated Qiming Zhong 3-0 in the semi-final before beating Ben Zhou 3-1 in the final: 11-8, 10-12, 11-4, 16-14.
Those results make this more than a trophy story. Twice, Bruce had to find a way back when defeat was one game away; in the final, he had to finish a fourth game that went well beyond deuce. It is a milestone to enjoy, and an encouraging example of staying in a contest long enough to create another opportunity.
Jack Shows the Value of Fighting Back
Jack's U1000 group campaign included a hard-earned 3-2 win over Vinh Nguyen Doan after trailing 0-2. He then won the all-CTTC knockout meeting with Lucas 3-1 before losing to seventh seed Bi, with all three games finishing closely: 10-12, 9-11 and 11-13.
In Division 3, Jack also took higher-rated Gideon Unger to five games. These were valuable opportunities to compete under pressure, not just collect results. His comeback deserves recognition, and those narrow games provide a constructive focus for practice: building a clear plan for the next point and trusting it when the score tightens.
Lucas Earns His Place in Two Knockout Draws
Lucas advanced from his U1000 group with a straight-games win over Nicholas J Green, including a 14-12 opening game. His knockout run ended against Jack, but reaching that stage was a positive part of his day.
He also progressed from his Division 3 group, recovering from 1-2 down to beat Luan Tran 3-2. Facing fifth seed Sangam Maharjan in the knockout draw then gave Lucas a demanding test at a higher level.
For Lucas, there is real value in both experiences: finding a way through a deciding game and measuring his play against a stronger opponent. The next step is to use those matches with his coaches to identify what worked, choose one or two priorities, and keep building confidence through purposeful practice.
Next Stop: November's NSW Junior Open
The next target is the 2026 NSW Junior Open Championships, scheduled for 14-15 November at the Sports Halls, Sydney Olympic Park.
For all three players, preparation can build on the same foundations: consistent serve and receive, clear decisions in close games, and a reliable routine between points. Match footage and coach-led review can help turn this tournament's experiences into individual training goals, rather than drawing technical conclusions from scores alone.
Congratulations to Bruce on his U1000 championship, and well done to Jack and Lucas for taking on the challenge and earning their own moments of progress. Thank you to the coaches and families supporting their development, and to NHTTA, the officials and volunteers for providing the opportunity to compete.
Enjoy the achievement, take the lessons back to training, and keep improving together. We look forward to cheering on our Chatswood juniors in November.
